Bogotá. September 26, 2022. Enka will have a space at the ColombiaPlast fair to be held from September 26 to 30, 2022, in the Great Hall of Corferias in Bogota. During this version, visitors will have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the business commitment to the circular economy that Enka has been working on in recent years, which has allowed it to position itself as a strategic partner of its customers and boost the recycling business in the country.

The company will present its offer of sustainable EKO(R)PET resins made from recycled PET bottles suitable for contact with food and certified by Invima, FDA and EFSA, and approved by the main beverage brands in Colombia and the world. In addition, it offers EKO(R)Polyolefins, high-density polyethylene and polypropylene resins produced from recycled caps and labels, used for the manufacture of plastic injection molding products and flexible packaging, completely closing the bottle cycle by generating zero waste in the recycling process. These resins complement the portfolio of environmentally friendly products and strengthen the company's commitment and responsibility to the country and new generations.

Enka also presents its nylon 6 resins designed for applications with high safety, resistance and reliability specifications for cable coating, injection molding and flexible food packaging.

"ColombiaPlast has become one of the best scenarios for national and international companies to showcase innovative processes that reinforce the sustainable purpose and are evidence that we can continue to move forward as an industry. From Enka, we can highlight that one of our achievements has been the implementation of an economy model that is profitable and allows the circularity of plastic materials. With the production of our EKO(R)PET resin suitable for food contact, we save energy, reduce CO2 emissions and benefit recyclers", according to Álvaro Hincapié, president of Enka.

As part of the technical agenda, the company will participate with the conference "Transforming the ordinary into extraordinary products" with the speaker Pablo Marín Agudelo, Enka's quality manager, where the company's transformation process and its incursion into recycling to become a benchmark of good practices and sustainability for the industry will be presented.

The Antioquian company continues its commitment to the circular economy, with the construction of a new plant worth US$40 million for the production of EKO(R)PET, which will have a capacity of 24,000 tons per year and is expected to start operating at the end of this year, which will double the levels of collection and the social and environmental benefits:

  • Recovery of about 6 million PET bottles every day
  • Energy savings corresponding to the consumption of close to 600,000 households
  • Reduction in CO2 emissions equivalent to taking more than 21,000 vehicles off the road
  • Revenues in excess of $200 billion annually for all bottle pickers

"With the start-up of this new plant we reaffirm our commitment to sustainability, innovation and high engineering, and we will position ourselves as one of the largest producers of recycled PET in the world," concluded Hincapié.
